Aqaba Development Corporation (ADC), the central development arm for the Aqaba Special Economic Zone (ASEZ), supported by the U.S. Trade Development Agency (USTDA) launched the first phase of the Port Community Information System (IPCIS) and Vessel Traffic Service (VTS) projects. ADC signed a contract with Global Defense Solutions (GDS) to execute the first phase of the project which involves completing a feasibility study to deliver an IPCIS and VTS for the Port of Aqaba.
This project aims at increasing Aqaba ports handling capacity and promoting trade by facilitating cargo movement, tracking vessels and improving navigational safety in the Gulf of Aqaba. The objective is to determine the technical requirements of a Port Community System (PCS) as an overarching technology solution where an IPCIS and VTS are interlinked in Aqaba. The PCS acts as an information highway, whereby all users – public and private sector, gain real-time or near-time access to valuable port information enhancing their daily business output.
