Transportation facilities include air routes and 7,660 km (4,760 mi.) of roads and tracks. The 1,100-km Trans-Mauritanian highway was completed in 1985. A 670-km (416-mi.) railroad links Nouadhibou to the Fdérik ore fields. Deep-water port facilities and international airports are located at Nouadhibou and Nouakchottl

Only one seventh of the total number of roads are paved in the country. For example, the roads from Nouakchott are only paved as far as Kiffa, Akjoujt and Rosso. The Trans-Mauritanian highway was opened in 1978 and links Nouakchott and Nema.

All routes, which are not paved, are sand tracks.

Driving is on the right.

There are about 7,558km (4,696 miles) of roads and tracks. A 670km (416 mile) railway links Nouadhibou to the Fderik ore fields.
