All regular Islamic holidays and festivals are kept, with the following additions:
1st January: Independence Day, commemorating the birth of the Sudanese Republic in 1956.
30 June: The Inqaz (Salvation) Revolution Day; commemorating National Islamic Front seizure of power by a military coup overthrowing the democratically-elected government of the former Prime Minister Sadiq al-Mahdi in 1989.
25th December: Christmas Day
